DESCRIPTION

You can opt for the American Plan at the main lodge, the Housekeeping Plan at one of the outpost camps, or even camping at the Bear Bay Campground. All American-Plan facilities have 110-volt electricity and surround the White House, a gracious, colonial-style main lodge on the shores of Lac Beauchêne. The architecture hints at the origins of old Club Beauchêne—a Kentucky distillery fortune. Réserve Beauchêne is home to a wide variety of fish species: smallmouth bass, lake trout, speckled trout, walleye, northern pike, whitefish and even splake. Of the 38 lakes available for fishing, ten have been designated for fly-fishing only. Beauchêne's carefully managed moose herds offer unusually high rates of success. Each guest is assigned a large exclusive terrain with a partner. After you've bagged your moose, large numbers of grouse and snowshoe hare will provide excellent sport if you're willing to carry a shotgun along the miles and miles of bush, roads and trails. Beauchêne also encourages bow hunting, with special seasons open for this sport.

DIRECTIONS

3.5 hours from Toronto to North Bay, Ontario, by Hwys. 400, and 11 (or 3 hours from Ottawa by Hwys, 17 and 537). Then 66 kilometers (41 miles) by Hwy 63 to Témiscaming, Québec, and then only 20 kilometers (12 miles) by gravel road to the Lodge.
