Presentation

Located 6 km from Ville-Marie, via Hwy. 101 south, the Fort-Témiscamingue-Obadjiwan commemorates the role played by this fur trading post for nearly two centuries. It is a witness to the important rivalry that subsisted between the French and the English during the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries to gain control over the peltry reservoir of Hudson's Bay. The post also recalls the aboriginal presence that goes back 6 000 years, the activities of the XIXth century fur traders and the role of the missionaries and foresters in the decline of the fur trade and settlement of Témiscamingue. At the interpretive centre, you may see the interactive exposition entitled Obadjiwan or Au détroit du lac (strait of the lake).Watch the thematic film and join the adventure on one of the outdoor discovery circuits.Walk in the footsteps of the past, see places and meet characters of that period. Also adjoining the site, is the renowned Forêt enchantée, famous for its Eastern tuyas of strange stature.
