For the first time in its youthful history, the Festival des Guitares du Monde will present a show at the IAMGOLD Arena in Rouyn-Noranda.

« In 2010, when the mayor of Rouyn-Noranda announced that the IAMGOLD Arena would be renovated and equipped for the presentation of sport and culture events, we took this wonderful opportunity to integrate this new cultural equipment within our Festival», mentionned Jean Royal, Chairman of the Festival des Guitares du Monde en Abitibi-Témiscamingue. «This is a grand premiere for our whole organization, since we are reaching out of our comfort zone and our more intimate venues! It is a challenge that we are ready to meet as a team and we trust that we will be able to fill the arena to total capacity», added Mr. Royal.

According to the artistic director, Mr. Alain Vézina, «We wanted to offer a festive evening with songs that festival goers would recognize right from the very first guitar notes! And our choice stopped on the Doobie Brothers who boast over ten radio top hits. The most popular of these is still Long Train Running, but several other titles have contributed to the group’s success; What A Fool Believe, Listen To The Music, Rockin Down The Highway, Black Water, Jesus Is Just Alright, Minute By Minute et China Groov ».

An impressive closing show in the company of the Doobie Brothers on Saturday, June 2 at 8 pm, at the IAMGOLD Arena in Rouyn-Noranda. This show is made possible thanks to the important participation of the IAMGOLD mining company. Tickets have been on sale since February 16. Prices are $70/stands et $80/stalls only at the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies’ box office www.huskies.qc.ca

The 8th Festival des Guitares du Monde en Abitibi-Témiscamingue will be held May 26 to June 2, 2012.
