Two historic sites to discover!
The history of gold and a village! It is the discovery of a gold vein in 1923 that brought mining explorers to the site of the future mine. In 1932, Lamaque Gold Mines took charge of the project and, starting in 1935, developed the deposit. It was to become the richest gold mine in Québec for several decades. Closed in 1985, the Ancienne-Mine-Lamaque, classed historic in 2010, has been converted into an interpretation centre now called Cité de l'Or. In summer 2011, come and discover its history with its all new exhibition « De l'Or plein les veins (Gold Flowing in its Veins) ». Become a miner- for- a- day. Experience something inimitable in a real mine with a visit at 91 metres (300 feet) underground. With this underground adventure, comes a visit of the surface infrastructures, namely the analyses laboratory where you will be introduced to the transformation of gold.
With your audio guide, discover the historic site of the Village-Minier-de-Bourlamaque (Miners' village) erected specifically for the mine workers over75 years ago and visit the Maison Historique. Inspired from geocaching, take part in a geo-rallye by discovering the hidden object with a GPS device. This is a fun and enriching activity that enhances team spirit.
