Fort-Témiscamingue National Historic Site of Canada

In the shadow of the Enchanted Forest, discover a treasure of the past… Visit the Obadjiwan interactive exhibition, an inestimable testimony to the presence of the Amerindian, French and English civilizations. While strolling through the site, yesteryear’s characters will guide you through the traces of the once golden days of this crossroads of fur trading. Learn about the lifestyle of its inhabitants and let yourself be transported into the discovery circuit flanked by the Hudson’s Bay Company historical buildings. Marais Laperrière opens officially on June 21. Pay only $2 to access the marsh and interpretation center. If you like you can also enjoy a self-tour with our guidebook.

Visiting the marsh without a guide is free. The deposit made for a copy of our self-guide tour book is reimbursed after the visit.

School outings are welcome from June 6 to 21, 2010.

Must-see activity!

On Sunday, June 6, 2010, attend the opening of the Greffons exhibition. Greffons are small fantastic characters who hide here and there in the marsh. The Greffons have made protection of the marsh and its inhabitants against pollution their primary purpose.

The Musée minéralogique de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue is situated near Osisko Mining’s Malartic project and Canada’s biggest gold reserve. The museum presents an exhibition on the geology of the region and the mineralogy of the world.

Interactive games, video presentation, permanent exhibition entitled "Du roc au métal", and many spectacular items: lunar stone, gold samples, fairy stone, etc.

A descent into the Lamaque gold mine

La Cité de l’Or / Village minier de Bourlamaque is the only site in Canada where visitors plunge into the heart of a former, yet once very prolific gold mine and into the life of a historic, yet still inhabited mining village.

Guided tours include:

  • An underground 300 ft (91 m) descent into the drifts of a real mine
  • A visit of the former Lamaque mine buildings (5)
  • An interpretation tour of the mining village
  • A temporary exhibition of never published photographs at Maison historique
  • A temporary exhibition of frescoes realized in the 1950s by an immigrant miner and presented in the dry house
